Jawdy signs out from Utah

As you may know by now, one of the best, and certainly the funniest, box-breaker on YouTube is pulling up his Utah roots and heading home to New Jersey for his job. He will probably be off the air for a while, and I'm sure it will kill him to know that all this trading and box-breaking goes on without him, but we gotta finish those sets and keep Topps and UD in business somehow!

I recently sent him some Phillies I had, including a Lieberthal autograph, and he sent me two beautiful Indians cards.

First up is this 2008 Topps Heritage Chrome refractor of Victor Martinez. The card, like all the chrome refractors I've seen, is warped like a boat, from side to side, so it doesn't sit flat in the scanner. I had to scan this several times to get it positioned correct. Also, his autograph has got to be one of the silliest ones out there. Fortunately, this is not his real autograph. This one is:

Much better, although his autograph is cut off due to the sticker being too small. Couldn't they figure out a better way to have the signatures on a sticker? Better yet, forget stickers, send these guys the whole damn card!

Enough ranting about both these cards. They are a GREAT addition to my Indians collection. I love autographs, Love autogamers, LOVE numbered autogamers, and LOVE LOVE LOVE low-numbered autogamers. This 2008 Spectrum card is in this last category. The only way it could be better if it was shiny, like the Heritage. Ooooooooh, shine-eeeeeeeeeee!

Thanks, Jawdy, and good luck with the move. We'll be looking forward to you getting back online as soon as possible.

My Heroes

I participated in the Group Case Break of 08 UD Heroes over at Jawdy's Basement on YouTube. This was my first time doing this with someone other than a blogger, but the results were outstanding. I traded with Jawdy (hmm, hmm, excuse me, Jordan) for the Indians, giving him the A's. It was a pretty even trade since both teams only had four players in the set. It ended up that we both got excellent pulls. I also had the Giants, which I kept in the hopes of getting a Vizquel, which I did, and a Lincecum, which I did not.

As you can see above, I got two relics, a Vizquel numbered 037/200, and a Hafner numbered 01/25. (A 1 of 1, right? Not.) Plus, the bonus tins of Sweet Spot that Jordan broke for the group break instead of keeping them for himself (they were bonuses for buying the case, I believe, and I would have had a hard time NOT keeping them to myself) yielded two more hits for me and a great hit for Jordan. Mine were the Martinez, above, numbered 435/850, and the redemption, shown below:

Sweet! No, Sweet Spot! Holy Sweet Spots, Batman! A dual-auto, red-stitch, blue-ink of Hafner and Martinez. As I said before, "SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!" And just to make sure that I didn't shaft Jordan too much for trading me the Indians, he got a signature glove part from the Sweet Spot of the A's Kurt Suzuki. I also sent him an auto of Geoff Jenkins, since he and his son, Number1Dragonoid, are big Phils Fanatics, as a Thank You.

Please check out his YouTube channel, as he is really good at this, and is very well-spoken, and it is quite humorous, especially when his son is chiming in!

Pimpin' a Box Breaker

I respect Dave's (from Fielder's Choice) opinion, so when he mentioned that a really great guy and his son do these box breaks on YouTube, I took a look and joined in a box break of 08 UD Heroes. Let me tell you, it was fantastic. Jawdy (or Jordan, to those without an accent) busted a case of Heroes, and pulled some amazing cards.

I traded with Jawdy for the Indians in addition to the Giants, and ended up getting two or three relics, plus a redemption for a dual autograph of Hafner and Martinez, plus all the base cards of the Indians. Awesome! Poor Jawdy opened 10 boxes, and his hands hurt so much after that he could barely open the bonus tins of Sweet Spot. He did a great job, along with his son, #1 Dragonoid, who is quite knowledgeable and a character to boot!

Jawdy is up to his old tricks again, and is doing a 10-box break of 2007 Fleer Ultra SE. It is only $15 per random team assignment, and the product looks great. There will be 50 hits total in the 10 boxes, so you have a good chance of getting at least 2 hits plus all the base cards. Trades are allowed.

See you there!
