My beef is: How the hell did he know what to bid? Is he using a sniping program? I don't know exactly how they work, but I would guess that, at the last 5 seconds of an auction, the program floods the auction with bids in increments until one wins. Does anyone know for certain how this bonehead was able to do that?
All in all, I bought one card - ONE CARD! - and lost out on at least 50 others. If I wasn't such a pacifist, I would search this guy out and string him up by his short hairs.

sniping programs work in the same manner as real time bidding. except you don't have to be there. you enter in your max bid, and the program will enter it at the time you request.(say, 3 seconds left)

Well, If you bid 50 cents. And somebody else bid 100 dollars. Wouldn't the person who bid 100 bucks just win it for one dollar? (or what ever increments the bidding goes).
Dan, you need to become a sniper yourself. I never actually bid on any eBay item, I just snipe. That way I avoid a bidding war and I get a better price. Try Gixen. It's free and works great for me. You just enter your maximum bid and it automatically bids for you when there are 5 seconds left in the auction.
By the way, what movie is that picture from? They play a video clip of it at Carolina Hurricanes and I've been trying to figure out what it's from for a few years!
That is the famous scene from "Network" in which Peter Finch goes berserk and screams "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" on his news program. In response, everyone starts yelling out their windows the same thing. Interesting movie. Pretty heavy.
all it takes is one other player collector to seriously skew the cost of cards on ebay. i used to go toe to toe with mrmopar on ebay for all the garvey stuff. we both wound up overpaying for a lot of cards because we were fighting each other.
