More Old Unis from BigD

Thanks to BigD, I have some more old uniforms on modern players to add to my collection. You can see them by clicking on the link in the sidebar, but these are the new ones:

This is the first I've ever seen out of Upper Deck X, any year. I was surprised by this one, but it is a nice shot of Konerko looking very "old time."

Most of the ones that BigD sent were out of '04 Leaf. They either must have thought that these were a pretty cool to way to show the players, or the players wore a lot of these in '03. Rolen's uniform harkens back to Stan the Man.

I'm not sure these are "old-time" unis, but they are long gone (thankfully), and since I've already put one of those awful mi-70's Braves uniform in the old binder, I should include these. If only Zito had a handlebar moustache....

These White Sox uniforms are the second worst in their history, only losing out to the horrendous black-and-white, collared, shorts uniform that they mistakenly wore one year!

Finish off with a couple of good White Sox unis and a St. Louis Browns uniform. Love the Sox on Batista, but the elbow armor on Canseco looks out of place.

Thanks, BigD .

Career in Cards

I've updated all the pictures in the Thome, Vizquel and Old-Time Uniforms links over on the right, so check out the timeline of Omar's and Jim's careers, and take a gander at those most excellent uniforms that the pajama-wearing loafers of today get to wear on old-timer's day.

More Old-Time Uniforms

I really love the look that some of these uniforms convey. Tough. Hard-nosed. Real men.

Having said that, what's the deal with Giambi's A's uniform? It's only about 7 sizes too big! And those collars! Just like me leisure suit from the 70's!

I know that Chipper's uniform isn't technically "old-style," but the card was too cool to let it slip past without taking a look at it. Love those Indian-feathers on the sleeves!

I think that the White Sox logo is very cool, too. They should go back to that one.

Thanks to Brad at Rickey Henderson Collectibles for these great cards.

Old Style Uniforms

In the last six months, I've looked at thousands of cards, and sifted through thousands more. Any collector has. That is part of the definition of "collecting," particularly when it comes to baseball cards.

I find that the cards I like the best, besides the Indians, autos and HOFers, are those in which the players are wearing the "old-style" uniforms. Maybe I'm a traditionalist. Maybe it is because I had to wear the sanitary socks and the stirrups when I was growing up playing Little League. (No, I'm not that old.) Maybe it is because I'm sick of seeing players like Manny-being-Manny disrespecting the uniform. I really don't like the ultra-baggy, cuffs-to-the-ground pants. I didn't like the Astros garish orange-striped uniform, and I certainly didn't like the Indians awful all-red ones either.

I present the Gallery of Old-Time Uniforms.
